Serenata was written by Leroy Anderson. Originally composed for orchestra, Serenata was first performed on May 10, 1947 as an extra at the Boston Pops. Lyrics were added by Mitchell Parish in 1950. It soon became a jazz standard, with recordings by Sarah Vaughan, Nat King Cole, and George Shearing.
